A more detailed description about both of them follows below.
Steve
Coats
Steve Coats is a managing partner and co-owner of International Leadership
Associates, a leadership development education and consulting firm. For nearly
twenty years, Steve has taught, coached, and consulted with executives and
all levels of managers in several countries around the world. His expertise
is in the related areas of leadership development, team development, change,
personal and business growth, and business strategy.
Steve's background, experience, and deep commitment have enabled many clients
with whom he has worked, to achieve remarkable results from their leadership
development efforts.
Steve is one of the leading authorities on the Five Practices of Exemplary
Leadership®, the proven leadership model detailed in the award-winning
book, The Leadership Challenge. His involvement with The Leadership Challenge
and relationship with its authors, Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, began in 1987.
Since that time Steve has worked with a wide range of clients, from household
name, top 100 corporations to small family owned businesses. He has also served
government and non-profit agencies.
Steve has also created a number of customized leadership programs for companies
such as AT&T, Convergys, Fifth Third Bank, Luxottica Retail, P&G,
Roche, and Sandia National Labs, to name a few.
Steve is one of a small number of Americans, certified to offer the Belbin
Team Role Inventory, developed at Cambridge University. He is certified to
offer the Emotional Competence Inventory, based on Dr. Daniel Goleman's landmark
work in emotional intelligence. He also has nearly two decades of experience
with the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.
Prior to ILA, Steve had sixteen years of experience with AT&T, where he
led a National Account Team and provided leadership and executive development
and consulting. He was also a co-founder of The Leadership Dimension, Inc.
Steve received his MBA in Executive Management from North Texas University,
and completed an executive program in technology and innovation at the Wharton
School.
Along with There is no Box, Steve co-authored the booklet, Raise the Bar.
He has also published several articles on various topics related to the subject
of leadership. His articles have been published in industry magazines, trade
journals, and have been used in educational efforts at the UN and the Management
Institute of Paris.

Tom Heuer
Tom Heuer is currently Corporate Vice President, Director of Executive, Leadership
and Management Development at Fifth Third Bank. He is responsible for designing
the corporation’s leadership architecture and developing/delivering
the programming to support the Architecture. Tom focuses his efforts on facilitating
leadership seminars, working with senior team development, coaching high performers,
and conducting strategic planning sessions for key business units.
Prior to joining Fifth Third Bank, Tom was a managing partner with International
Leadership Associates (ILA), a leadership education and consulting firm. Tom’s
practice at ILA reflected his research interests - leadership and strategic
planning consultation, executive coaching, senior team development and facilitating
leadership seminars. He has written numerous articles on the subject of leadership
and is known as an expert on the Kouzes and Posner leadership model, the Five
Practices of Exemplary Leaders®. Tom’s clients
included BANC ONE Corporation, Huntington Bancshares, M&T Bancorp, Fifth
Third Bank, LensCrafters, The Kroger Company, Lexis Nexis, Motorola, Proctor
& Gamble, Merrill Lynch and 3M.
Tom has significant, senior level corporate experience. He was Chief Operating
Officer for Pinnacle Bancorp and Senior Director at Deloitte Consulting. At
Deloitte, his work focused on strategic planning and organizational effectiveness
issues in the Financial Services Industry and with middle market/emerging
clients. He started his "passion" for Leadership Development and
Organization Strategy at BANC ONE. He wrote with the Harvard Business School
Faculty the HBR Case Study on Bank One’s venture into diversification.
Tom received his undergraduate degree from Capital University and his MA degree
from Ohio University. Prior to co-authoring "There is No Box," his
leadership articles were published in the book, Raising the Bar. He is certified
in BENCHMARKS through the Center for Creative Leadership and Emotional Intelligence
through Daniel Goleman. He is a popular speaker on the topics of leadership
and business growth and is sought after for his group facilitation skills.
His current research looks at the leadership development programming and experiences
needed at different career/life stages.
